FEATURED ARTIST BILL RUMBLER PHOTOGRAPHER Title: “GOLDEN LIGHT”  “When I was growing up in Chicago we lived in a ground-level flat. The window shades in the living room were always pulled down, lest passers-by on the sidewalk see all the way through the house. My bedroom had a window, but all I could see for the first 18 years of my life was the brick wall of the neighboring building three feet away. That perhaps explains my interest in “space”:  vistas, views and panoramas. The Central Coast with its craggy shores and golden hills present these in abundance, so I seek images with trees you can glide over and mountains you can soar above. I also like shooting rusty junk. I see my photos of obsolete hulks as sort of noble epitaphs for once powerful  machines. And a recent trip to South Africa offered an unequaled opportunity to capture images of exotic beasts in their natural habitat, as well as humans in their most challenging.” Type of Art: PHOTOGRAPY Show title:  “GOLDEN LIGHT” Exhibition Dates: MAR 1 through MAR 29th 2015 Opening Reception: FRIDAY, MARCH 13TH, FROM 5-8pm Where: GALLERY AT MARINA SQUARE, 601 EMBARCADERO, SUITE 10, MORRO BAY, CA 93442 Contact: […]

FEATURED ARTIST: JARIEN de HAM “BRUSH FLYING, INK DANCING” Artist Statement: by Jarien de Ham In Jarien’s own words; “”Brush Flying, Ink Dancing“ speaks to the spontaneous side of Chinese brush painting. When the brush touches the paper, that’s when the magic begins–watching the ink spread and blend. Taking the brush through calligraphy, landscapes, figures and bird and flower paintings is a delight and a torment. Trying to capture form, mood and essence is a continual challenge. If it is easy, why do it? Living on the central coast for 40 years, I often marvel at how the landscape and atmosphere resemble a Chinese painting. Rather than paint China, I choose to paint what is here before me or in my imagination. Scrolls long ago were made to be unrolled a little at a time, taking a journey of the mind. It’s only ink and paper, maybe a little color, but it takes you places.” Type of Art: CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING Show title: “BRUSH FLYING, INK DANCING” Exhibition Dates: NOV 1 through NOV 29th 2014 Opening Reception: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH-5pm to 8pm Where: GALLERY AT MARINA SQUARE, 601 EMBARCADERO, SUITE 10, MORRO BAY, CA 93442

FEATURED ARTISTS: LINDA LOEBS “OFF THE ROAD” Artist Statement: by Linda Loebs “I’m lucky, my husband likes to drive and I like to look.  This fortunate circumstance allows me to photograph scenes that appeal to my artistic sense, if I capture it before it flies by my window.  Over the past year I’ve collected a fair amount of images, mostly from the highways and byways of California that have inspired my newest paintings. This last year I’ve worked with my photos to recreate, in the studio, paintings that capture the beauty of nature.  Often the photos I work from are meant to refresh my memory as I’m not a slave to an image, but rather prefer to give my imagination free reign when I paint, sometimes, using my imagination alone to create paintings. I can’t really say what exactly inspires me to paint a particular image.  For sure something has intrigued or stirred my artistic senses.  Sometimes it’s the way light hits the land or illuminates the air.  At other times it might be the colors of the land, or how the road curves through it.  Whatever it is that has inspired me to paint a subject, I always hope […]
