This was a privilege I relished as art materials abounded and I was never allowed to be bored. The master sculptors Michelangelo, Rodin and Bernini are my heroes. Because of my fascination with other places, people and animals, it is no accident that Scuba diving is my second favorite thing to do. I draw inspiration from these surreal worlds where science fiction and mythology merge. It is no coincidence that I love to sculpt, as I find living things endlessly fascinating. Bird and Flower painting, one of the four genres of Chinese painting, initially drew her in. This was followed by Calligraphy and classes in China that covered Landscape and Figure painting. While the Central Coast is far from China, many elements revered in Chinese art can be found here — cypress trees with their irregular balance, foggy atmosphere, fish, and birds. These subjects appear throughout Jari’s paintings, sculptures, and various craft forms.

Cohen, a Sonoma County-based architect and builder for over 40 years, is drawn to contrasts: new and old, created and found, weathered and highly finished. His sculptural art fabrications start with items he finds washed up on West Coast beaches. Alan transforms these materials in his Sea Ranch or Healdsburg shop, adding old fishing tackle, rusted wire, tools, brushes, and other recycled objects to create birds, underwater creatures, masks, and abstract pieces. His work is a blend of simplicity, elegance, whimsy, and fantasy.

Art Listings: March 2025 Featured Artist: Exhibit: 2nd Saturday Opening Reception: Location: Contact: Craft Atelier Space Featured Artist: Thomas Mackenzie Brown, Ceramics Artist Statement: Thomas has dedicated his ceramics career to studying crystalline glazes specifically. His medium of choice is usually porcelain, and he typically creates his forms on the potter’s wheel. All of Thomas’ glazes are mixed from scratch, perfected throughout the past four decades. Thomas Mackenzie Brown received both a BFA and MFA Degrees in Art with a specialization in technical ceramics in California. Beginning his crystalline glaze studies in 1983 with minimal available documentation, this technique quickly became his passion. A Career Art Instructor in California, his constant endeavor remains producing new, exciting colors and versions of crystalline glazed pieces that are well-made, beautiful to look at, and help add value to the understanding of form as it relates to crystalline and other glazes.
