Gregory feels that photography is an opportunity for all to marvel at the beauty found in this world. Birds, sunsets, mountains, oceans, each offers a journey into serenity and the sublime. We are provided with infinite opportunities to discover, to experience, and to truly live.
The pursuit of perfection and beauty is of little value if undertaken without humility, reverence, and an appreciation for gentleness. Towards this end, photography becomes a chance to discover a gentle state of mind, a feeling, a mood, all shaped through daily practice. In that sense, photography is a meditation.
Like all forms of meditation, photography is a means of pausing time. We are granted a single, infinite second in which to live wholly in the present. As we breathe in and quiet the mind, we begin to observe life as it truly is; vivid, fleeting, and, as the French so aptly put it, incroyable. Yet this experience is not reserved for the photographer alone. When we view fine art photography, we too are invited into that moment. It is here, in the stillness of the image, that we are offered a glimpse of the sublime — that very feeling the photographer encountered at the moment of capture.
Wandering the world with a camera, capturing images of sunsets, mountains, landscapes, animals, oceans or even family and friends, all either near or far, gives an opportunity to appreciate the glory of existence and to preserve the little moments of friendship, love, light, life, and all the magic we can discover and know.
Gregory’s lens serves as a bridge between reality and imagination. His portfolio includes a wide range of subjects, from the splendour of nature and the structure of architecture to the quiet presence of everyday life. What distinguishes his work is not only technical skill, but a consistent effort to convey feeling and meaning through each frame. His compositions often focus on the subtle or the overlooked, revealing the depth found in the ordinary, while also capturing the scale and form of more expansive scenes.
Greg has lived on the Central Coast for nearly thirty years, during which time his photographic practice has been shaped by a sustained interest in observation and interpretation. His work reflects a consistent engagement with both the familiar and the unusual, favouring subjects that might otherwise be overlooked. Through careful composition and attention to detail, he produces images that reflect a thoughtful and measured approach to the visual world.
Art reminds us that we are all here for a brief, bright moment, and we should take the time to appreciate and surround ourselves with the marvellous, while appreciating that ultimately the only time we have, is right here, and is right now.
