Bird and Flower painting, one of the four genres of Chinese painting, drew her in. Then came Calligraphy and classes in China that covered Landscape and Figure painting. While we are a long way from China here on the Central Coast, many elements revered in China are here — cypress trees with their irregular balance, foggy atmoshpere, fish and birds which are subjects of her paintings, her sculptures and her many craft forms. Her primary medium is wool but she also incorporates various other fibers into her art. Her work is created both using wet felting and needle felting techniques. “I love the tactile nature of the fibers and their ability to lend themselves to both the realistic and playful. Needle felting allows for sculpting the fibers and creating 3-D pieces which speaks to my interest in engineering and natural forms. It is a wonderful to sit with the fibers and create every day and the added level of joy experienced by sharing with others heightens the creative process.”
