Artists’ Statement: “I knew early on, that art would somehow become an intrinsic part of my life! “Although a career path would lead me in a different direction, I worked hard, painted when time permitted and raised a family.  I moved to the Central Coast of California, where I fell in love with rolling hills that reach to the sea and began to pursue lifelong dreams of becoming a professional artist. The local landscape has had a profound impact on the artwork I create in oil. “My style is representational, utilizing a glazing technique of many thin layers to create a translucent effect that provides depth and emanates light from my paintings.  My current body of work has been inspired by the powerful movement of the sea and magnificent coastline.”During the last thirty-five years. I’ve become an award winning artist, a member of The Portrait Society of America and Oil Painters of America.”

Art Listings: March 2025 Featured Artist: Exhibits: 2nd Saturday Opening Reception: Location: Contact: “Knife Painting in oil, for me, is an exploration of possibilities. An idea or image takes form as I freely utilize knives and brushes with thickly applied color that is vibrant, alive, and assertive. The creative process begins to assume a life of its own, and herein lies the discovery of what can surprisingly unfold. As I work, I find myself immersed in the dynamic interplay between color and texture, allowing each stroke to guide the next. This spontaneous approach often leads to unexpected and delightful results. Hopefully, the final expression will both attract and engage others as they observe my efforts to share a bit of the beauty that surrounds us.”

His sculptural art fabrications begin with items he finds washed up on west coast beaches. These objects generally speak to him about a direction or suggest an idea. He transforms his sculptures by adding old fishing tackle, rusted wire, tools, brushes, and other recycled objects to create birds, underwater creatures, masks and abstract pieces. Some pieces are simple and elegant, while others are whimsical and fantastical. #bigsur #travelcalifornia #art #alancohen pn
